Composition of the board
The NT Architects Board is a statutory body established under Architects Act 1963 to provide for the registration of persons engaged in the practice of architecture and to control architectural practice in the Northern Territory.
The board is comprised of 5 members who must reside in the Northern Territory, each appointed by the minister for a term of 3 years.
Three members must be architects and at least one of these members must be nominated by the NT Chapter of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects. The other 2 members must not be architects. The chairman and deputy chairman are elected by the appointed members.

Functions
The board’s functions include:
- processing applications for the registration and renewal of the registration for architects, architectural partnerships and architectural companies
- recommend to the Architects Accreditation Council of Australia those courses conducted in the Territory which, in the board's opinion, are suitable for qualifying persons to practise architecture
- hold inquiries and deal with complaints under the Act in relation to registered architects and perform any other functions conferred on it by the Act or any other Act.
The board also conducts architectural practice examinations as part of a national system, as a basis for registration.
